We certainly love our job and hearing back from our passengers is always exciting! We try hard to meet everyone’s expectations by offering a memorable experience in the stunning Skjálfandi Bay. Therefore,  positive feedback always make us feel proud of our work!

Our team really appreciates all sorts of feedback. Why? It definitely helps us to know what our strengths are and what leaves some room for improvement.

In this case, we invited our friends Kathrin & Dominik from VACAYMOOD, who joined one of our tours on the 7th of July.

You can find more about their experience below:

“An unforgettable highlight on our route through Iceland were the whales, that we spotted with Husavik Adventures in the bay of Húsavík. We desired to see the large marine mammals up close for so long, but so far, we only ever saw a splash, blow or a fluke from a distance. Here in Húsavík, our dream should finally come true.”

“After some nice views from the distances. luck is on our side and the humpback whale appears only a few meters from our boat. All guests freeze in awe. The engine of the RIB is switched off and the whale stays on the surface for a few seconds and eyes us. What an experience.”

The Húsavík Adventures team

After what seems like an eternity of wait… our whale watching tours from Húsavík are now available for booking for the 2021 season! Drum rolls please!!

So…get those warm clothes out, pack them up and make your way to us. Get ready to enjoy a unique experience with Húsavík Adventures!

We offer a 2-hour whale watching tour from Húsavík, known as The Whale Capital of Iceland, on a speedy RIB.

What’s on the tour, you ask? Our amazing caption, whale watching tour guide expert, warm water resistant overall suit, a life vest, and lots and lots of fun.

Big Whales & Puffins

Our tour begins by heading into the beautiful Skjálfandi bay. There are varied whale species that are known to be accommodated in this area, for example the Humpback whale, the Minke whale, the White-beaked dolphins and sometimes even Blue whales and Killer whales!

Our first pit stop will be in Lundey, also known as the Puffin Island in English. It is a great spot to enjoy bird watching Iceland’s popular ones.

We will then head to Tjörnes peninsula, known for its fossil layers with the most ancient one being two million years old!

Why a RIB boat for a whale watching tour?

The speedy RIB boats can pull off maximum miles in the trip which makes it more likely to have a closer encounter with the whales. And with a capacity of just 12 passengers on board, we’ve tried to make it an exclusive and elusive experience for our tourers to enjoy the breathtaking views and of course, our beloved giants from every angle.

*Please note that the Puffin season is ca. 1st May-20th August. Outside that time of the year our tours are Big Whales exclusive!

Midnight Sun Whale Watching

Our most prized possession is the Midnight Sun Whale Watching tour! Hop on our sleek RIB Boats and sail away into the midnight sun to meet the whales.

These tours are available from 1st June until 31st July. That’s the time of the year when the daylight is almost for 24 hours in Iceland! In the most ideal conditions (which happens often) the sea goes completely still while the sun drops down in the horizon.

And what about the whales? Not asleep at all!

Through the years, our guests have enjoyed numerous whale activities in the bay with minimal traffic from other boats. In fact, the Midnight Sun Whale Watching tour from Húsavík is one of the best kept secrets from the town, as the conditions are very often ideal for our travelers.

So, what are you waiting for? Book your tour HERE !

See you soon!

That’s it! A very great RIB whale watching season has come to an end. It was the second whole season of Húsavík Adventures in business (we did a two month “miniseason” in 2015) and it went pretty much as well as it could have. We were very lucky with our brilliant crew who made so many people happy as our perfect score at TripAdvisor can confirm.

Húsavík Adventures proudly presents: Midnight Sun Whale Watching!

Our most glorious and stunning product is without a doubt whale wathcing tour on our brilliant RIB boats in the amazing Midnight Sun. The tours are available from 16th June until 15th July. That’s the time of the year when the daylight is about 24 hours in Iceland! In the prime conditions (which happens a lot of times) the sea goes completely still while the sun drops down in the horizon.

And the whales? Not asleep at all! Yesterday evening our passengers enjoyed a great show where the mighty blue whale stole the show with dolphins trying to keep up with some jumping exercises.

This picture was taken by our guide Elísabet. It shows excactly what we’re talking about!

Time flies and we are already almost a month in our 2017 whale watching season! So far we’ve had a 100% whale sighting success in our tours. Every tour is a little bit different from the other of course but generally the tours have been really great and the passengers pleased with the experience they’ve had in our RIB boats.

Our ever so curious humpbacks have always been spotted, with minke whales and white beaked dolphins showing themselves occasionally. What’s been pleasantly unusual is the frequency of orcas/killer whales in the bay. Orcas were only spotted a few times last summer in Skjálfandi bay. They tend to follow the herring which they like so much and are therefore mostly seen in the west coast of Iceland. The precence of orcas in our bay this season has left many people with a smile on their face as they are always really fun to watch.

We surely hope that this is a good clue for the upcoming months!

Yesterday was the first day of Húsavík Adventures’s third season in RIB whale watching. And what a start it was! On a very sunny day with a rather strong wind from the south our crew went on to their first tour of the day at 10 AM and the second one at 4 PM. Passengeres were honored by the presence of the largest animal of the earth – the mighty blue whale who calmly swam in only a few meters distance from our RIB boat. Amazingly the blue whale showed its fluke which is very rare sight to be seen – and that is an understatement!

Blue whales visit Skjálfandi Bay mostly in June but in the recent years they have luckily been able to enter the bay in other months as well.

The ever so curious humpback whale was also spotted in both tours, pleasantly showing him self at its favorite feeding place. This beginning of the season cannot but give some great hopes for the upcoming season. Húsavík Adventure’s daily departures from 1-15th May are scheduled at 10:00. From 16th-31th May will be two departures at 10:00 and 13:00. Extra departures and private tours are of course available upon availability.

We’re only a few days away from our first day of the 2017 season. The spring is blooming in Húsavík and we’re optimistic for the summer. The first humpback whale of the spring was recently spotted in the bay. Humpback whales are large animals, about 13 meters long and weigh about 30 tons when grown up. They are regular visitors in Skjálfandi Bay, coming from their breeding areas in the south to feed here in the north for the summer.

Our RIB boat Kjói (the Arctic Skua) will head out for the season’s first tour of 2017 at May 1st @ 10:00. A second tour of the day is scheduled at 16:00. Tickets can be bought in online or in Húsavík at North Sailing’s ticket office.

So, it’s almost time for the next whale watching season. This will be the third one for Húsavík Adventures. Since day one, the company has underlined quality and personal service as the main focus. Luckily this has not gone unoticed by our dear customers. Fifty great reviews and none negative ones at TripAdvisor tells its story. Now it’s time for round three and we’re desperate to keep on going, making sure that our travellers have the best of time possible while in our hands.

This summer will start slowly, with one tour at 10 AM until 16th May when we add another tour at 1 PM. There will be at least five departures at the high season. The last tour of the day from 16th June- 15th July will be our very special “Midnight Sun Tour” at 22:30. Last year the tour was a hit for those who joined us, enjoying the beautiful Icelandic midnight sun while watching the activities of some of the largest animals of the world. And the best part – being alone in the bay few or no other boats in our way. We’re hoping to make this product even bigger this year.

We’re looking forward to see you!

With warm respect,

Húsavík Adventures’s crew
