Yesterday was the first day of Húsavík Adventures’s third season in RIB whale watching. And what a start it was! On a very sunny day with a rather strong wind from the south our crew went on to their first tour of the day at 10 AM and the second one at 4 PM. Passengeres were honored by the presence of the largest animal of the earth – the mighty blue whale who calmly swam in only a few meters distance from our RIB boat. Amazingly the blue whale showed its fluke which is very rare sight to be seen – and that is an understatement!

Blue whales visit Skjálfandi Bay mostly in June but in the recent years they have luckily been able to enter the bay in other months as well.

The ever so curious humpback whale was also spotted in both tours, pleasantly showing him self at its favorite feeding place. This beginning of the season cannot but give some great hopes for the upcoming season. Húsavík Adventure’s daily departures from 1-15th May are scheduled at 10:00. From 16th-31th May will be two departures at 10:00 and 13:00. Extra departures and private tours are of course available upon availability.

We’re only a few days away from our first day of the 2017 season. The spring is blooming in Húsavík and we’re optimistic for the summer. The first humpback whale of the spring was recently spotted in the bay. Humpback whales are large animals, about 13 meters long and weigh about 30 tons when grown up. They are regular visitors in Skjálfandi Bay, coming from their breeding areas in the south to feed here in the north for the summer.

Our RIB boat Kjói (the Arctic Skua) will head out for the season’s first tour of 2017 at May 1st @ 10:00. A second tour of the day is scheduled at 16:00. Tickets can be bought in online or in Húsavík at North Sailing’s ticket office.

Buckle up ladies and gentlemen! For decades Húsavík has been known as the Whale Capital of Iceland (and even Europe) for it’s great whale community that includes pioneers in whale watching, the Whale Museum, whale research center from the University of Iceland and no-whale-eating-policy. Of course Húsavík has therefore got most of its tourism because of whale related activity. Húsavík Adventures goal at the foundation of the company was to expand the town’s activity source – simply by offering our lovely guests to do more while enjoying our delightful town a little longer.

Well now it’s time. At June 1st, Húsavík Adventures will start a new activity. We will offer Buggy car adventures, available for all the 12 months of the year. The 800 cc CF Moto cars are registered and are allowed on usual roads. We will focus on gravel paths in the Húsavík area, in a various terrain with the Icelandic nature at its best. An experienced guide will drive in front of the group and share his knowledge in the pit stops along the way.

Tickets available online. We can’t wait. Game on !

So, it’s almost time for the next whale watching season. This will be the third one for Húsavík Adventures. Since day one, the company has underlined quality and personal service as the main focus. Luckily this has not gone unoticed by our dear customers. Fifty great reviews and none negative ones at TripAdvisor tells its story. Now it’s time for round three and we’re desperate to keep on going, making sure that our travellers have the best of time possible while in our hands.

This summer will start slowly, with one tour at 10 AM until 16th May when we add another tour at 1 PM. There will be at least five departures at the high season. The last tour of the day from 16th June- 15th July will be our very special “Midnight Sun Tour” at 22:30. Last year the tour was a hit for those who joined us, enjoying the beautiful Icelandic midnight sun while watching the activities of some of the largest animals of the world. And the best part – being alone in the bay few or no other boats in our way. We’re hoping to make this product even bigger this year.

We’re looking forward to see you!

With warm respect,

Húsavík Adventures’s crew
